Perched above the urban hum at Hillsborough Court, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong, The Natura is a private residence shaped by tenderness - for the land, for craft, and for the quiet bond between a single mother and her son. Designed and manufactured by Alexander Wong Architects, the home is less a showpiece than a lived philosophy: study nature, stay close to it, and let design soften the pace of city life.

Living With the Grain of the Hills

From the bay windows, the Mid-Levels unfold in layered greens. The home leans into that view with timber walls, floors, and ceilings that create a modern Scandinavian calm - an atmosphere inspired by Villa Mairea by Alvar Aalto. The result is quietly timeless: a space that draws you into the present moment and away from excess, inviting a gentler relationship with your body, mind, and the spiritual undertow of everyday life.

Small Rituals, Big Meaning

The apartment choreographs daily rituals into moments of presence. Read with the hills framed by a bay window. Sip chamomile beneath crystal-and-gold chandeliers beside the glass “Crystal Garden”. These aren’t indulgences; they’re reminders that happiness grows from noticing. The Natura proposes a radical idea for dense cities: if we live in tune with nature, even in fragments, our collective well-being rises.

Art Meets Interface

Luxury here isn’t about isolation from the world. It’s about balance. Colorful modern and abstract artworks animate the rooms, while technology stays front and center. Three LED displays run along the Ribbon TV Wall - the screen as our portal between physical life and digital realms, a gentle nod to the coming metaverse. The home doesn’t retreat from connectivity; it curates it, so information serves life rather than overwhelms it.

Every domestic rhythm - living, sleeping, cooking, bathing, meditating, exercising, reading, listening - unfolds with ease. Details matter: golden butterfly coat hooks greet you at the entrance; irregular slatted sliding doors soften transitions; a custom nickel-silver casing dignifies the air-conditioning unit; minimal crystal chandeliers crown the dining area. Function and beauty are braided together so the home teaches you how to notice design while forgetting about effort.

The palette plays with tactile warmth and luminous contrast: nickel silver shimmering against Amazon green marble and natural timbers from Schotten & Hansen. Italian modern furniture icons from Cassina and Henge add color and heft, while bespoke tables echo the spirit of ClassiCon and Tom Dixon. Lighting by Preciosa and Artemide sculpts the mood; golden butterfly hangers from Ghidini 1961 bring a playful note. In the bath, gold fixtures by Dornbracht meet the quiet intelligence of a smart toilet from Toto Neorest. It’s a symphony of craft where innovation never loses its warmth.
