Set along the tree-lined boulevard of Dunhua North Road, Capella Taipei emerges as a quietly confident addition to the city’s evolving luxury landscape. Opened in 2025, the 86-room hotel marks the brand’s debut in Taiwan and introduces a refined architectural narrative shaped by celebrated designer André Fu.

Rather than adopting the grand gestures typical of many luxury hotels, Fu envisioned the property as a “modern mansion” - a sanctuary that balances residential intimacy with metropolitan sophistication. The result is a contemplative retreat that mirrors Taipei itself: vibrant, layered, and unexpectedly serene.

An Arrival Designed as a Spatial Journey

The arrival experience unfolds like a carefully choreographed sequence. Guests pass through imposing bronze doors into a marble vestibule where art and architecture immediately converge. Tapestries depicting Taiwanese landscapes greet visitors before a graceful archway reveals a soaring reception space.

From here, circulation flows organically toward Plume, the all-day lounge that anchors the hotel’s social heart. The space is animated by a mural inspired by the Taiwan blue magpie - an emblem of local identity - while soft lighting and layered textures create the atmosphere of an elegant private salon.

At the center of this spatial narrative stands a sculptural spiral staircase constructed from hundreds of hardwood blocks, encircling the vertical artwork Quiet Dynamics by Mexican designer Joel Escalona. The installation functions as both architectural anchor and artistic statement, reinforcing Fu’s belief that hospitality design should unfold like a gallery of experiences.

Fu’s design language blends European residential elegance with Asian sensibility, producing spaces that feel intimate rather than monumental. Soft neutral palettes, curved architectural lines, and tactile materials, from bronze and marble to blond timber, create a calm visual rhythm throughout the interiors.

The hotel’s tower, developed in collaboration with Japan’s Mori Building Group, rises as a sleek glass structure within the Songshan district, yet its interiors cultivate a distinctly domestic atmosphere. Fu describes the concept as an interpretation of Taipei’s character where dense urban life coexists with pockets of tranquility beneath banyan-lined boulevards.

This philosophy transforms the hotel from a conventional urban property into what feels more like an elevated private residence.
