“HAUS Da Lat was conceived with inspiration drawn from one of Da Lat’s most enduring symbols: the pine tree. Its cones and needles reveal the refined geometric patterns found throughout nature, and we sought to reinterpret those forms in the architecture, from the overall massing to the smallest architectural details. I hope that when people visit HAUS Da Lat, they will not only appreciate the beauty of the buildings themselves, but also develop a deeper awareness of the extraordinary natural landscape that surrounds them”.

In a city celebrated for its pine forests, mist-covered hills, and temperate climate, architecture faces an unusual challenge. Rather than competing with nature, it must learn to exist quietly within it. This philosophy lies at the heart of HAUS Da Lat, a mixed-use luxury development that reimagines how contemporary architecture can respond to one of Vietnam’s most treasured landscapes.

Situated on a rare five-hectare site overlooking the iconic Xuan Huong Lake, HAUS Da Lat approaches architecture as an extension of its environment rather than an intervention upon it. Every design decision begins with the landscape itself, seeking harmony between built form, ecology, and everyday life.

That vision is reflected in the project’s collaboration with internationally acclaimed partners, including Kengo Kuma & Associates, 1508 London, Chiva-Som, and Isometrix. While each studio brings expertise from projects around the world, they share a common commitment: creating architecture that belongs to its place instead of simply occupying it.

For Kengo Kuma, whose work has long explored the relationship between architecture and nature, Da Lat’s pine forests offered more than visual inspiration. They provided the project’s fundamental design language. The geometry found within pine cones and pine needles informed the composition of the architecture at every scale, from the building massing and structural rhythm to façade articulation, roof profiles, shading elements, and carefully crafted architectural details. Rather than replicating natural forms literally, the design interprets their underlying order, allowing the architecture to feel inseparable from the landscape that inspired it.

This respect for place extends beyond aesthetics. Existing pine trees are carefully preserved as defining elements of the masterplan, while the buildings are positioned to maximize natural ventilation, daylight, and long-distance views toward the surrounding forests and Xuan Huong Lake. Deep roof overhangs, generous terraces, weathering timber, natural stone, and high-performance glazing work together to create architecture that responds to Da Lat’s unique mountain climate while reducing environmental impact.

Landscape plays an equally significant role in shaping everyday life. Rather than serving as decorative open space, it becomes an immersive environment where architecture gradually dissolves into nature. Walking paths weave beneath mature pine canopies, gardens unfold as natural extensions of living spaces, and water elements reflect the changing light throughout the day. The boundaries between interior and exterior become intentionally blurred, encouraging residents to experience the rhythms of nature as part of daily living.

The project’s philosophy also extends to wellbeing. In collaboration with the internationally renowned wellness brand Chiva-Som, HAUS Da Lat integrates spaces dedicated to holistic health, movement, restoration, and mindfulness. Here, wellness is understood not as an isolated amenity, but as an essential component of the architectural experience, supported by fresh mountain air, abundant greenery, natural light, and carefully designed communal spaces.

This integrated approach reflects a broader ambition: to redefine luxury through longevity rather than excess. At HAUS Da Lat, luxury is measured by timeless craftsmanship, environmental sensitivity, cultural authenticity, and the quality of everyday life. Architecture becomes a framework for meaningful experiences across generations, balancing privacy with community, and contemporary living with an enduring respect for local identity.

Recognition at the Asia Architecture Design Awards acknowledges more than architectural excellence alone. It recognizes a shared commitment among the project’s international collaborators to demonstrate how global design expertise can be thoughtfully adapted to local culture and ecology. Instead of importing an international architectural language, HAUS Da Lat offers a contemporary expression shaped by Da Lat itself, its landscape, climate, craftsmanship, and enduring spirit.

As cities across Asia continue to evolve, HAUS Da Lat presents a compelling vision for the future of place-making. It suggests that the most enduring architecture is not necessarily the most iconic or monumental, but the architecture that deepens our relationship with nature and strengthens our connection to place.

More than a destination or a collection of residences, HAUS Da Lat aspires to become a new architectural heritage for Da Lat, one that honors the city’s natural legacy while offering a thoughtful model for sustainable luxury living in the decades to come.
