In the heart of Ibiza’s fertile countryside, where olive trees cast elongated shadows and the distant crow of a rooster marks the slow rhythm of the day, a once-unassuming rural house has been lovingly reawakened. Estudio Martín Pelaz has reimagined this humble sanctuary as Villa Golondrina - a dwelling that speaks the quiet poetry of its surroundings with elegant restraint and unforced modernity.
Hidden among the natural contours of the land, Villa Golondrina embodies a delicate balance between its rustic past and a calm, contemporary present. Rather than erasing the home’s original character, the design team chose to work with the existing structure, preserving its layout and historical memory while gently enhancing comfort and spatial flow.
Stepping inside feels like entering a living poem of light, texture, and tactility. Walls coated in soft lime plaster harmonize with terracotta floors, creating a warm yet serene canvas that resonates with the island’s earth and sun. Arched alcoves and vaulted ceilings echo traditional Ibicenco forms, rooting the spaces in place without sacrificing clarity or refinement.

The heart of the home, an open-plan living and dining area, is anchored by a custom four-metre built-in sofa, while sculptural fireplaces frame moments of domestic intimacy. Throughout, the deliberate use of natural materials - timber, ceramic, and linen - weaves a narrative of craftsmanship and calm.

Craftsmanship plays a defining role in the villa’s soul. Local artisans collaborated on bespoke details such as a woven cane beam ceiling that draws the eye skyward, infusing the interior with organic warmth. In the kitchen, hand-painted tiles adorned with blue olive motifs lend a subtle nostalgia that bridges past and present.

Furniture and décor, a thoughtful mix of vintage finds, contemporary pieces, and custom designs, add layers of texture without ever overwhelming the serene material palette. Felt pendant lamps, suspended in relaxed constellations, cast a soft glow, while handcrafted wooden tables invite leisurely conversation and gathering.
